Aquarists at Bristol Aquarium have been hard at work creating some special marine-themed mince pies for their fishy residents.
Staff at the Harbourside attraction devised their own version of the Christmas favourites which have been going down a treat with a variety of aquatic inhabitants.
Among those enjoying the traditional yuletide treats were an appropriately festive-named lobster, Satsuma, freshwater turtles, rays and a shoal of cichlids.
“As it’s now officially the start of advent we thought we’d give our fishy residents some early Xmas treats,” said Bristol Aquarium’s Hannah Worrall.
“Our aquarists have done an amazing job of adapting the traditional mince pie recipe and replacing some of the key ingredients with fish-friendly alternatives.
“I have to say the end results looked good enough to eat, although none of us were quite brave enough to try them!
“They did go down extremely well with all of our fishy residents, particularly Satsuma, our orange-coloured lobster, and the turtles who couldn’t get enough of them,” she added.

The aquarium is also hosting its own ‘Merry Fishmas’ event throughout the Christmas holidays.
Running daily (except Christmas Day) from Saturday, December 17th – Monday, January 2nd visitors can see a variety of Santa Claws’ moults, take on the Crab Cracker trail and make a crafty starfish to decorate their Christmas trees.
Try and spot the aquarium’s festively dressed, giant cuddly costume character Charlie the Clownfish plus help the team feed Brussels sprouts to a selection of fishy inhabitants!
